First, I want to thank my husband....this vacation was our anniversary gift (we have been married for 5 years now! Whoo Hooo!!!) Coming from Colorado, I have been missing the mountains, so when I casually mentioned to him that I wanted to go back home this year that I was missing the mountains and my family, he made arrangements for us to spend a long weekend at a cabin in the Smokey Mountains in Murphy, NC. Isn't he wonderful!!
Vacation June 2012
We drove up to Murphy on Thursday night after work. It was a long 7 hour drive, but we enjoyed the time together. We laughed, talked and Kalynn watched her new Veggie Tales movie and sang along with the radio with me.
We got up to the cabin about 1am and unloaded the suitcases and headed to bed. The cabin was amazing!!! It was bright, open and had so much space! Kalynn slept on the pull-out couch (or at least started there) with Molly and Reese. John and I slept on the bed with Skeeter. (by the way, the bed was super-duper comfy!)
Friday, we slept in and then unloaded the truck and stopped at a grocery store in town to stock the fridge for the weekend. When we got home, we made a sandwich and put away the food. Then settled in to watch some TV together and decide what we wanted to do for the weekend. Later Friday night, we took a walk around the Murphy River Walk. Then headed back to the cabin for some brauts and then Kalynn and I relaxed in the hot tub while John watched some TV.
Saturday, we decided to walk around the farmer's market downtown. On the way, we noticed that the flea market was pretty busy so we decided to stop there on the way back. Down town, we found a wonderful shop called Moose Hollow Trading Company. I can tell you, being a mountain native myself....I LOVE the rustic cabin look....... Definitely my kind of store!!! Along the farmer's market, there were jars of home made canned jams, and vegetables, fresh fruits and vegetables, home made jewelry, fresh honey, local pottery and bags, birdhouses and all sorts of other crafts. Then we walked the flea market. We ate ice cream and saw some neat items....One item I found, I fell in Love with! It was a hand beaded 3D humming bird necklace.
I wanted it so bad...........but I didn't bring enough spending money...So I will be looking online, maybe eBay (wink wink). Then we headed back to the cabin and we cooked a nice steak dinner on the grill and all ate a candle light meal together (since it was our anniversary). We turned on the radio channel on the TV and opened up the french doors and then sat outside on the swing and enjoyed a fire in the fire pit. Later, Kalynn and I watch fireflies while John got into his bathing suit and then we all spent the rest of the evening in the hot tub.
Sunday, we packed up the truck and decided to stop at Rock City. We spent about 3 - 4 hours walking the gardens and enjoying the most beautiful waterfall I think I have ever seen!! Words can not even begin to describe Rock City, You will just have to see it for yourself!!
So there you have it............Our AMAZING Family Vacation at Reon's Cottage in Murphy, NC.
